Wicked Cravings (The Phoenix Pack, #2) - Suzanne Wright image

5 Glorious Panty Melting Stars!

If you still haven't read [b:Feral Sins|13522957|Feral Sins (The Phoenix Pack, #1)|Suzanne Wright|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1331458140s/13522957.jpg|19083644], what are doing sitting here reading this review? Run and read it now! seriously!

Although this can be read as a standalone, it loses so much of the background if you don't read the 1st. All my favorite characters from the past book were in this: Trey, Taryn, and even grouchy ol' Greta

"Taryn gave Jaime a pleading look. “Any tips on how to deal with Old Mother Hubbard here? You’ve known her longer than I have.” Jaime pursed her lips. “Don’t get light in her eyes, don’t get her wet, and never feed her after midnight.”
image (couldn't resist)

But I digress...

I had high hopes for Wicked Cravings. I was so scared that this would be a dud since how do you possibly follow up on the pure awesome that was "Feral Sins". So color me surprised and happy when this exceeded my wildest expectations. Suzanne Wright, I might have developed a girl crush on you now, and I am hoping beyond hope that you give us Nick and Shaya's story next.

But I digress again...

Dante and Jaime were fantastic characters. Jaime is now another of my all time favorite heroines. I loved her kick-butt attitude even in the light of her "predicament" so to speak. Dante...dreamy sigh
image

That about sums it up for me

The story was fast-paced, and had me turning the pages eagerly wanting to find out what's next. Suzanne Wright did not disappoint with the typical snarky humor that I have come to associate with her books. I found myself laughing like a loon for many parts of this book.

Just some of my favorites were:

"...there are just some girls you make a point to stay away from. Glory’s like a bowling ball. She gets picked up, fingered, and thrown in the gutter, and yet she still comes back.”

image

“Thanks. That really means a lot coming from a backstabbing, rumor-spreading, attention-seeking, black hole of need. But then, I suppose it’s a good thing that you’re spreading something besides your legs.”

image

“Dante doesn’t go easy. It’s tough.”

“And I can’t do it because, what? Because I’m a female? I’ll have you know that there are plenty of things women can do that men can’t.”

Tao snickered. “Like what?”

“Well, bend over in prison, for one. Multitask, ask for directions, belly flop with dignity, bleed for five days every month yet not die—”

“Have multiple orgasms,” offered Dominic. When Tao turned and scowled at him, he shrugged innocently. “What?”
image

Taryn in labor
“What?” The word dripped with horror. “Women can shit when they’re in labor? Tell me that won’t happen to me! Don’t you let me shit, Grace!” A loud, lengthy cry signaled that she was having another contraction. Trey’s voice was soft and encouraging. “Just breathe, baby.” “I am fucking breathing! And why does this gas and air make me sound like Darth Vader?” “Here, how about I move it out the way for—” “Don’t you touch it,” she growled at him. “It’s mine. Understand? Mine.” “Okay, okay, you keep it, it’s yours.” “Wanna try it?” “No thanks, baby.”

...
“Push,” encouraged Trey. “I am pushing, doofus.” A few moments later, there was a sob. “Why isn’t anything happening?” “I know you’re tired, baby, but—” “Don’t you touch me, Flintstone, this is your fault! Don’t think we’re playing Hiding Pedro ever again!” Shaya sounded stern yet amused. “Now, Taryn, that wasn’t nice.” “Cut it out of me!” Presumably Taryn was totally ignored, because she growled, “Fine. Give me a knife, I’ll do it!”

Of course what would this story be without the scorching hot sex scenes, and boy did we get them! The scene where Dante claims Jaime...HOLY MOTHER OF HAWTNESS! DAMN! I might have panted a little reading that

I loved almost everything. I wasn't big on Jaime calling Dante "Popeye" all the time. I'd just get this visual
image and it would kill my buzz at times *sheepish grin*

But alas, can't have it all and that really didn't have me enjoying this book any less.

Muscle For Hire - Lexxie Couper Hoo boy...this book
image

After reading and loving [b:Love's Rhythm|13489378|Love's Rhythm (Heart of Fame, #1)|Lexxie Couper|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1329981229s/13489378.jpg|19027974], I was so excited to see that Aslin would be getting his own book. I mean a book about a sexy British bodyguard?
image

Unfortunately, this book just did not deliver. At least not for me.

It started out pretty good. I loved how Aslin and Rowan first meet She kicks his butt I thought I'd really enjoy reading about a heroine like Rowan; she is a martial arts expert after all. Ultimately, I found her character to be vulgar and irritating.

I struggled to connect with the story, it felt rushed, considering the entire thing takes place over a few days.

Aslin and Rowan meet and all they can think of is
image

right...

Then we get a dance of push and pull where Rowan goes from "I want you" to "I don't want you" over and over and over. They almost have sex in an alley, then they almost have sex on a bike...until finally they go at it like monkeys in his trailer.

At that point though...
image

During Aslin's internal dialogue, he constantly refers to himself as "boyo", which just started grating on me at 60%.
image

Rowan keeps constantly referring to him as "soldier boy"
image

I wouldn't call this a romantic suspense novel. I would say that this was an erotic romance with a little suspense thrown in.

I found the relationship that took place between Rowan and Aslin to be rushed and unrealistic. They go from having sex to being in love in a day or 2. That is not something I enjoy reading.

I understood the reasoning behind Rowan's tough-act persona, but I was never able to connect with her character. She came off as a little too vulgar and hard-ass for my taste. Some might enjoy this type of heroine, but that just wasn't me.

At around 30% the whole thing just started dragging, and my interest began to wane and I began to skim pages. By the time it started to pick up a little at 70%, I was already at a point where it was more or less
image

Don't get me wrong; Lexxie Couper is a fantastic writer. She knows how to write one hell of a sex scene. Many might truly enjoy this book (though I'd recommend reading [b:Love's Rhythm|13489378|Love's Rhythm (Heart of Fame, #1)|Lexxie Couper|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1329981229s/13489378.jpg|19027974] first).

I just didn't enjoy it and this was due to my own personal preferences.

I'll certainly be reading the next book in this series, since it wasn't the writing, but the story itself that didn't work for me.
Heavy Issues - Elle Aycart What in hell is my problem? WHY?! WHY?! WHY did I wait so long to read this book?!!!

What do you get when you take a hot, dirty-talking commitment phobic Alpha male with mommy issues and an insecure, quirky female with issue of her own just looking for a few good orgasms? A FANTASTIC F-in book, that's what!

Cole
image

First, let me just say that this book had some of the best dirty-talk I have read in some time. I kid you not. There were chapters that after I was through reading them, I felt like I needed a cigarette, a cold shower, or a drink...at times all 3.
image

Moving on!

I've been a fan for Elle Aycart since I first read
[b:More than Meets the Ink|11873473|More than Meets the Ink (Bowen, #1)|Elle Aycart|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1309310118s/11873473.jpg|16831213]. While this book can easily be read and enjoyed as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading the 1st since many characters were first introduced in it and because it's a great book.

At first I though I wouldn't like Christine and her body issues would grate on me and be repetitive but it wasn't even close to it. She was quirky, and endearing, and I found myself liking her more and more with every page. She doesn't take Cole's BS or anyone else's.

The chemistry between Cole and Christy was burn-through-the-pages hot, and that's not even touching on the actual sex scenes because MY.GOD! They both had issues and I loved how they helped each other deal with them. I especially loved how Cole approached Christy's issues with food and her body.

I also really liked the way that Christy dealt with a few issues that came up at the end A jealous woman, and Cole's commitment problems It was refreshing to read a heroine that faces these problems head on and doesn't just run for the hills.

I didn't think it was possible for me to like this book more than the 1st, but I did. Now I need Max's story.
Real - Katy Evans 4.5 stars

Remy
image
image

Wow. The last 15% of this book have left me speechless. What a ride!

It's hard to believe that this was Katy Evan's debut book. It was fantastic.

It was fast paced, emotional, and filled with so much sexual tension I thought my ovaries would burst. Seriously. It's tough to pull off sexual tension of that caliber. The chemistry between Brooke and Remy was searing, and you just felt it right along with them.

A few things I didn't like:

At times I did have moments where I felt that Brooke and Mel's dialogue came off a little bit juvenile, but it wasn't that much of a biggie.

I didn't enjoy the way that Brooke leaves Remy when something bad happens. It was hard for me to forgive her for this...ESPECIALLY when we learn why he did it

However, all that in consideration, this book was still great. I gobbled it up in one day and loved every steamy minute of it.

Rush Me - Allison Parr 3.5 stars

If I'm being perfectly honest, this whole book read like a B grade Romantic Comedy. But something about that just really worked for me. I was surprised to find myself really enjoying it, and read it in one sitting. There were things that I really liked, and a few things I didn't. But overall, it was a pretty good book.

Rachel Hamilton
image is a post-grad living in Brooklyn with her friend and trying to make a career while interning at a publishing company. She has big dreams, but battles fear of rejection and shyness.

On her way to a theater party, she accidentally crashes what turns out to be a pro-athlete party. While looking for a way out, she stubles into Ryan Carter
image
or more accurately, she walks in on Ryan in the midst of a...uhem...BJ from a sports groupie.

image

I really enjoyed the banter between the two of them. This was NOT a story of love at first sight, and the sarcastic and at times mean comments they threw at each other were highly entertaining. At certain times it was a little much, and I wanted to hit one of them.

Even though Rachel is not typically the type of heroine I like (she's constantly going of on feminist tirades and she's extremely mean and rude to Ryan in the beginning and throughout a lot of the book. She is very snarky, and at times a borderline bitch) but there was just something about her that made her endearingly quirky.

"This is ridiculous. WHo cares this much about appearance? Why am I spending so much time on this? For God's sake, I shaved my legs. I hate shaving my legs. Who am I shaving them for? For society? Why am wearing the torturous, deforing device knows as heels?"
"Shut up. You can be a feminist and still like looking pretty."
I slid further down in my seat, crossing my arms and feeling grumpy. Then I perked up. "You think I look pretty?"

She is also adorably clueless about all things sports.

"Who's playing?" I asked Abe. I didn't ask what sport. I was pretty sure that would be sacrilegious.
Mike dropped down on my other side. "Michigan and Notre Dame."
So, a state and a badly mangled Parisian cathedral. "Oh. Cool."

As time goes by, Rachel and Ryan go from trading insults to forming a friendship. They bond that takes place is very realistic, and doesn't just happen overnight. It was very fun to read.

Ryan and Rachel talking about going on a carousel:
"What's the point of going up and down on a piece of wood when you have the real thing?"
My lips quirked. "That's what she said," I muttered, not quite able to help myself.
He snorted. "How come I get yelled at when I say stuff like that, when you make the exact same jokes?"
I spread my arms out airily. "Because I am filled with grace and poise."

I have to say that there were times where the insult-trading went way too far, and there were quite a few cringe-worthy moments from both Ryan and Rachel.

The story itself was not anything unique. It was hate-to-love story of the shy and insecure girl meets the uber sexy football superstar quarterback. Allison Parr still manages to pull it off very well, considering that this is her debut novel.

It was a cute and humorous sports-themed, New Adult novel. I enjoyed it, but cannot say that it will be going on my favorites list.

I did become a fan of Allison Parr and her writing. I will gladly be looking forward to her future books. (Perhaps Alexa and Nate?)

Second Chance Boyfriend (Drew + Fable, #2) - Monica Murphy Fantastic conclusion to a very beautiful story.

I loved this book. I liked it even more than the first, and I really liked the first.

The book starts of around 2 months after the first one ended.

Drew and Fable are both dealing with the fallout of the events that took place at the end of One Week Girlfriend.

I really liked that Drew had made his own decision to seek professional help and see a therapist. He had a long road to recovery, but it was realistic and heart-breaking to read.

I was a bit thrown off by the introduction of Colin, Fable's new boss. He came off as a total creeper at first with comments on Fable changing her looks. I was very confused by his character for the entire book. He makes a comment to Drew when he first meets him that made me think that Colin was interested in Fable in a way that went beyong employee and boss. But at the end they are all friends all of a sudden. It was a very strange development for me. Towards the end we see that there might be something between Colin and Jen, Fable's coworker. But I felt that it totally came out of left field.

The rest of the book was fantastic. It was steamy and beautiful. I loved Drew's tattoo and the development of their relationship.

The events that take place at the end though

image

Holy shocker batman! Even though some of them I saw coming...one threw me for a loop completely and shocked the bejebus out of me!

I adored the epilogue. I found myself tearing up while reading it. I swear, it could have been so cheesy, but instead it was so cute! I just loved it.

I am now a huge fan of Monica Murphy and cannot wait for her future books

One Week Girlfriend (Drew + Fable, #1) - Monica Murphy Thank god I waited to read the first book until the second one came out. Otherwise I'd be

From the outside, it looks like Drew Callahan has it all; looks, a successful college football career, money. But inside he is harboring a secret so deep and dark, that it rules his entire being turning him into a robot, a shell, unfeeling.

In a desperate attempt to deal with the nightmares that plague him with an upcoming trip to his childhood home for Thanksgiving, he approaches Fable, a girl he doesn't know but has a reputation that fits his means, with a proposition. He will pay her $3,000 to pretend to be his girldriend for a week and go with him back home.

Fable is a girl that is dealing with her own demons. She takes care of her 13 year old brother because her mother is an alcoholic. Desperate to make ends meet, she agrees to Drew's proposition.

In the week that follows, relationships change, feelings grow, and secrets are revealed. And something that was only supposed to be pretend, turns into something very very real.

This book was an emotional roller coaster for me. Drew is such a tortured soul, it hurt my heart.

10% into the book I had a feeling about what his secret might be.
66% it only got worse
and when we finally find out about the whole thing
image

Wow! just wow!

Even though I had a pretty good idea what would happen, it didn't make it any less of a gut-wrenching revelation.

This book deals with a subject that is not typically touched from quite this angle
sexual abuse of a male, minor

I was enthralled with the story from the very first page and could.not.put.it.down until the last. It was emotional, dark, gritty. The relationship that develops between Drew and Fable didn't seem forced or far fetched- it was beautiful to read.

An emotionally beautiful story about pain, nightmares, forgiveness, and tragedy.

Starting the 2nd book right now. Can't wait!

Surrender (Section 8, #1) - Stephanie Tyler I'm at a loss of words here...maybe I just set my hopes too high? I loved Stephanie Tyler's Hold Trilogy, Shadow Force and Acro Series. So when I saw she will be releasing a new Romantic Suspense series
image

Then I began reading

image
image
image
imageimage
image

If you are at all familiar with Stephanie Tyler's writing, you know that she usually weaves in numerous character POV's in her stories. In Surrender, we meet the main hero, Dare. Dare is the son of Darius, a Section 8 operative (A black ops group of loose cannon operatives recruited from various military branches and the CIA). Section 8 has been dis-banned, but seems that their handler/founder is now hunting down and eliminating all the original members and their families.

Dare is a former Seal who is struggling with his own demons due to a mission gone bad during which he was tortured and watched his entire team get slaughtered. He was saved by an Army Ranger, but hasn't been the same since. With the members of Section 8 now being hunted down, and his farther MIA and presumed dead, Dare finds his own life in danger. He finds out that he has a half-sister Avery, who is in the same predicament. Their only way out, so they think, is to kidnap the daughter of the founder and handler of Section 8.

About 13% into the reader finally gets introduced to Grace, the main heroine. Dare kidnaps Grace with the hopes of using her as leverage against her father, but everything is not at all how it seems.

In between the story that takes place between Dare and Grace, we get the POVs of Avery and Jem (Jeremiah). We also meet Jem's brother Key, who is the Ranger that saved Dare's life, and Gunner, the mysterious owner of a tattoo shop. There is a lot of world building that takes place, and we learn more about each character.

Now the plot itself sounded very promising. Unfortunately for me, it just fell flat. I could not connect to the characters or the story. I honestly struggled to finish this book just to see if it gets better at the end...it didn't. Dare and Grace's relationship was not very interesting to me. Their interaction and even the love scenes between the 2 were uninspiring and luke-warm at best. I didn't really see what their connection was. It seemed sudden and rushed. I struggled to get into the book from the very beginning, and then as it progressed I found my interest waning more and more.

This might have been the case of "been there-read that" for me. It also might have been the case of my expectations being too high going into this, I'm not even sure. It pains me to give a this book a less than stellar rating, but it just didn't work for me.

I will read the next book in the series, in the hopes that it gets better. But I think I'll wait to get it from the library, instead of adding it to my auto-buy list.

Perhaps readers that haven't read a lot of Romantic Suspense would enjoy this.
Dangerous to Know & Love - Jane Harvey-Berrick image

First let me just say that if you have not read [b:The Education of Caroline|17229636|The Education of Caroline (The Education of..., #2)|Jane Harvey-Berrick|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1357874562s/17229636.jpg|23744006] and [b:The Education of Sebastian|16148137|The Education of Sebastian (The Education of..., #1)|Jane Harvey-Berrick|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1352832895s/16148137.jpg|21982585] drop everything you're doing and read it. Jane Harvey-Berrick is an immensely talented author that weaves a story so flawlessly beautiful, it's impossible to put down.

Having read those two books and absolutely adoring them, I couldn't wait to delve into her new NA novel.

Having said that, it really pains me to do this, but this was a DNF for me at 20%.

I really think that this will be the case of "everyone loved it but me", but let me explain why this just didn't work for me. I could do it in one word: Lisanne.

Lisanne was, unfortunately, everything I simply cannot handle in the main heroine. She was innocent to the point of intolerable. She was a virgin unlike any I have ever read before.

You ever been kissed, LA?" he said, leaning forward and staring into her eyes, a smile hidden behind them.
"Don't be a jerk!" she snapped.
"Thought not," he said smugly.
"I've been kissed," she stammered. "A lot."
It was a damned lie, but there was no way she was going to admit that to him.

She was also extremely sheltered, judgmental, childish, jumped to the wrong conclusion at every turn, cried if someone looked at her wrong, doesn't like swearing (not even "damn"), and at times flat out bitchy.

The best quote to sum her up for me is this:

"Jeez, chill!" he said. "You're sounding like my kindergarten teacher."
She scowled and he leaned back in his chair, laughing at her.
"I can't help it," she said, petulantly. "I'm sensible. Mom says I was born middle-aged."

I really liked Daniel, even if he did have at times what I found to be unreasonable anger issues and flare ups. I think if it wasn't for the heroine, I might have hung in there. I usually really enjoy the NA genre.

I sincerely look forward to future books from this author since I love her writing style. Unfortunately, I had to cut my losses with this book. Hence, I will refrain from rating it to be fair to the author.

But don't let my experience stop you from reading it. My lack of enjoyment was out of my own personal preference.
Secret Sins (The Callahans, #3) - Lora Leigh And on that note: I am done...Done...DONE!

DNF'd at 50%

I apologize in advance for my rant/review, but what happened to this author? I've loved her Elite Ops and Tempting Seals series. But with this series, each book has been getting progressively worse.

I swear it has become a "if you're read one, you've read them all". It is basically regurgitated drivel. Take a hero and heroine, change their names around, and rinse and repeat. I swear there was a scene that was literary copy and pasted from earlier in the story. I realize all authors have a "voice" that is their stamp, so to speak. But this is not the case here, in my humble opinion. Her characters all sound the same. The sex scene dialogue is repetitive and sounds the same in EVERY.SINGLE.BOOK.

What irritates me most? The ERRORS! I look past this on self-published books and with Indie authors because c'mon, I get it. But we have a publisher AND and editor here...the amount of errors and TYPES of errors are just inexcusable. The names are wrong on some pages, dates vary, details vary...that's not even touching on basic grammatical no-no's.

I hate to say this, but I am now officially done with her books. Until the caliber of writing gets much better, I will MAYBE check out Leigh's future books from the library but I am certainly not wasting my money pre-ordering anymore.
The Vincent Brothers: Extended and Uncut - Abbi Glines I wasn't huge on Sawyer in the first book, and honestly I wanted to smack him for the majority of this one. He finally manned up toward the end, but considering this was 85% in the book, it was just a case of too little too late for me at that point unfortunately. (I'm just cold-hearted that way)

I was curious where the story would take the Vincents, and I'm glad I have a conclusion to their story. There was an epilogue that was cute, filled with rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns at the end.

I didn't really enjoy this as much as the first. Perhaps it was my meh-ness toward Sawyer...not sure. It was a cute book, and that's about the one word I can use to describe it.

I have to preface by saying that I am NOT a reader of YA, so this is a large part of my so-so rating.

Fans of the YA genre would definitely enjoy this. I'd recommend reading both the books to get the full story.

So while this was a cute book, it wasn't quite AS good as the first. My saving grace in the first book was Beau. Something about a dirty-talking bad boy just makes my heart go pitter-patter.

This book also wasn't anywhere near as steamy as the first.

Quick, cute, fluffy read.

3 stars
The Vincent Boys: Extended and Uncut - Abbi Glines 3.5 stars

Although I am not a reader of Young Adult, I gave the Extended and Uncut version a shot. Truthfully, I am glad that I bought it for the discounted price of $4.99, rather than the regular $8.99 price tag. I don't think that the book would have been worth it otherwise, it was a fairly quick read.

I enjoyed the story. It was a very typical high-school angsty romance. Cue the indecisive, trying to be a good girl to please people around her heroine and the town's bad boy, and you got the entire gist of the book.

This was an enjoyable read, albeit a forgettable one.

Abbi Glines does know how to write one heck of a love scene, however, and I've really enjoyed her New Adult genre books.

Beau was a dirty talking bad boy (Yes, please!)

Ash was a heroine I wanted to smack for almost 75% of the book.

The story was nothing I haven't really read before, but I still liked it.

Fans of the Young Adult genre will really enjoy this. This reader however just does not have the stomach for THAT amount/level of angst.

Love Irresistibly (FBI / US Attorney, #4) - Julie James Cade Morgan
image
(I hear the words sexy attorney, and his picture just pops up...can't help it)
image

Brooke Parker
image

Julie James has a gift. She can write a book that will suck you in from the very first chapter (just see

[b:Something About You|6642402|Something About You (FBI / US Attorney, #1)|Julie James|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327933063s/6642402.jpg|6836876]) and keep you enthralled until the very last page. She writes some of the best characters that I've ever read, and that doesn't just stop with the hero and heroine. She has this knack for writing extremely endearing and entertaining supporting characters, like Brooke's best friend, Ford. The banter between the 2 kept me laughing all through the book.

"You know, I'm not sure I'm feeling the proper level of sympathy here," she told Ford. "I think we need a little more rallying around the dumpee. If you were a woman and I'd told you that the third guy in eighteen months had broken up with me, right now we'd be drinking lemon drop martinis and giving each other female empowerment pep talks about how we don't need a man in our lives to feel complete. And then we'd watch The Notebook and drool over Ryan Gosling."
Ford flashed her a grin as he stretched an arm across the back of his chair. "Sorry, babe. But when they handed out best friends, you drew the straw with a penis attached. That means no Ryan Gosling."

What I truly love about her books, and this one in particular; is the way she writes the heroines. They are no meek kittens. They're sassy, funny, professional women, who kick butt and take names, while at the same time being completely relatable and endearing. This is what I really loved about Brooke.

When Cade Morgan comes charging into Brooke's office with a demand that she help him in an investigation he is a part of, she is very quick to set him in his place.

He'd come here, to her office, to as for her help. Now he was threatening her with obstruction of justice charges - and most annoyingly, he was doing it with a smile.
So she returned the favor. "That is nice, Mr. Morgan. Because in response to your tough-guy speech, I, in turn, would've had to give you my tough-girl speech, about where, exactly, federal prosecutors who come to my office looking for assistance can stick their obstruction of justice threats." She smiled ever so charmingly. "So I'm glad we were able to sidestep that whole ugly business. Whew."

Cade and Morgan are both workaholics, whose love lives have suffered because of their line of work. So when sparks fly between them, they are both unable to see themselves in a serious relationship but still unable to deny the pull toward each other.

I'm still laughing over the scene where Brooke had to google the rules to casual relationships.
This had to be a joke. No personal gifts except for sex toys? Sure, because nothing said "I like but don't love you" like a "just because" vibrator

The chemistry between Cade and Brooke was incredible, and the love scenes were down right scorching...I'd even go so far as to say the hottest out of the entire series that I've read.

The relationship between them was not insta-love, and I really enjoyed that. There is no rush to the "I love yous", no sudden marriage proposals, no unnecessary angst. It was real, and it had problems, and the way that they got through them was very realistic while still giving us the HEA.

I also loved reading about all the previous characters from the series and seeing where they are at; pregnancies and engagements and weddings.

This series has been on my auto-buy list since the very first book, and it only gets better and better with each book. Of course it doesn't hurt that they are based in my home-town of Chicago, and I love reading about all the different places that I know and love.

If you have never read a book by Julie James, you are seriously missing out. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I would highly recommend starting with the very first book, since a lot of the characters are introduced that are then in the later books. But more so, they are simply FAN-FLIPPIN-TASTIC books.

Own the Wind - Kristen Ashley Parker "Shy" Cage

I never dreamed any fuckin' dream," he whispered, and the smile faded from her face as tears filled her eyes.
She understood him.
"Shy-"
"Didn't dream it, saw it, waited my time, and then you gave it to me."

Oh man, I loved this book!

It started off with a bang and heartbreak. I wanted to smack Shy, I wanted to hug Tabby, I wanted to shake them both, but through all this I.couldn't.put.my.kindle.down.

Tabby is a fantastic heroine. She was just the right amount of sassy without being over the top, she stood up for herself. She did have some immature moments, but nothing overly dramatic.

Shy is going on my list of favorite KA heroes ever. He started out as a man-whore (typical), but the change that took place was very enjoyable to read. I think what I liked, is that the change was believable. It was not a case of insta-love, this took place over a few years, and it made sense based on what we read about his story.

"And when you called me, I realized if I didn't get my shit together it would be empty pussy and parties for the rest of my life, and I'd never have a woman who was lost wihtout me." His hand moved from my waist to frame the side of my face, and his voice got quiet when he said, "Just to be clear, the point of findin' that is not makin' a woman be lost wihtout me....The point of findin' that is to have that feeling, be abe to give that gift, to work at keepin' it good so my woman never feels lost because she knows she'll never be without me."

He was sexy, he was uber-protective, possessive, Alpha, but yet he had these incredibly sweet moments that just pulled at my heartstrings.

"Know this, Tabby, I lose you, it would be sixty years of goin' through the motions. I know that in my dick. I know it in my gut. I know it in my heart. I know it deep down in my goddamned soul"

Tabby was an amazing heroine as well, with plenty of her own notable moments.

"I'm with him because when I'm with him, I'm free to be me. I'm with him because he's hot. I'm with him because he lets me blather, since I'm prone to blathering, and he lets me rant when I have a bad day. I'm with him because when I rant, he makes me feel better and he does this effortlessly. I'm with him because I live for the times when I'm on the back of his bike and we're riding together, not even talking, just being free."

It took about 35% of the book for Shy and Tabby to come together, but boy when they did

As a couple, they were extremely functional. Their love for one another was shining through the pages. It was so refreshing to read a relationship without the addition of unnecessary angst or drama. Don't get me wrong, there was still drama, but mainly outside of their relationship, and I felt that they dealt with it beautifully together.

The love scenes were scorching hot, and nothing short of what you'd expect of KA.

I had a little fangirl moment when around 80% in we get a reunion with many memorable characters from Dream Man, and Lee Nightangale. We even got a little peak into Hop and Lanie's relationship. I was extremely relieved to see that KA redeemed him as early as this book We find out that when Hop slept with BeeBee, he was separated from his wife

There was also a snippet in the back for the next book, which I cannot wait for!

5 brilliant stars.

This is by far one of the best erotic paranormal romances I have read in a while. There was very little I disliked about it. What I absolutely adored about it were the main characters.

The romance between Trey and Taryn is not insta-love. I truly enjoyed watching their feelings develop from lust to genuine caring for one another.
“How does it feel? To know you hold my sanity in your hands?”

Trey is as alpha as they come. He is rude, crude, and oh so sexy!

“I’ve met guys like you before. They talk the talk but, well… talking doesn’t exactly get people to orgasm, does it?”

Trey smiled wickedly. “When I fuck you, Taryn— and make no mistake about it, baby, I will fuck you— the only talking you’ll be doing is begging me to let you come. And don’t doubt that I’ll make you come. Not just the once. You’ll come over and over again, until I decide you’ve had enough. Until I decide that I’ve had enough.”

Taryn is by far, hands down my favorite heroine that I've read. I developed a girl crush on her. If I were to bat for the other team, she will be on my list of fictional girlfriends. It was so refreshing to read about a heroine that isn't some virginal ingenue, stands up for herself, and has a sharp tongue and sarcastic tendencies.

“We should probably clear this up right now, psycho boy. I don’t have a submissive bone in my body, so don’t bark at me unless you’re happy to be ignored.”

She doesn't back down from anyone or anything and can deliver some of the best lines I have ever read.

“I suppose this is the part where you enlighten me about how you’re his ex— perhaps even the love of his life— and then I’m supposed to feel insanely jealous. Sorry, but it’s just too early in the morning for me to muster that kind of response. Maybe you should try again later.” Though that wasn’t to say that Taryn wasn’t tempted to slap her purely for having touched Trey— as idiotic as that was.

“Seriously, Trey, you can’t honestly have mated her. She’s not even your type. I mean, she’s thin. And mouthy. And small. Even her boobs are on the small side.”

“I have nice feet.”

“You’re not his type!”

“You mean because I can read and write?”

She is not some damsel in distress, she is Trey equal in every sense, and Alpha female.

“Oh. And what is it you think you’re going to do to me now?”

Mousy smirked. “I’m thinking that I’d like to fuck that mouth of yours.”

“Sorry. I was raised to never put small objects in my mouth or I might choke.”

To top it off, she can kick some ass. Honestly, girl crush material!

The book also had some of the most creative curses I had ever read

“You motherfucking, ass-licking, son of a goddamn cocksucking bitch!”

It's an erotic romance, so the steam is off the charts. Suzanne Wright has a definite gift for writing a smoking hot love scene. Ladies, I'd warn you to have a few pairs of clean undies on hand when reading this they will be melted off.

It wasn't all just book porn; it had a great plot and many laugh out loud moments.
“And yet you haven’t thrown out your inherently evil grandmother.”

Chuckling, he shaped her waist with his hands. “I know she’s being a little difficult right now, but she’s one of those people who grow on you.”

“No, she’s one of those people who are like Slinkys.”

“Slinkys?”

“Yeah. Basically useless, but they make you smile when you push them down the stairs.”

If you like your romances steamy, your heroines feisty and kick-ass, and your heroes Alpha, dirty-mouthed, and seriously sexy than this book is for you!
