First Surrender (The Serafina: Sin City Series) - Katie Reus review to come

Review: Safe With Me by Kristen Proby

Safe With Me - Kristen Proby

4 Dirty Talking SEAL stars I’ll be damned if I’ll screw this up for her. I’m too fucked up for anything long-term, and she deserves nothing less.

I've been looking forward to Caleb and Brynna's story for a while now. Kristen Proby definitely knows how to write a steamy as hell romance. While I can't say this book will be making to my favorites list, I did enjoy it. When a tragic event forces Brynna and her twin daughters to fear their safety, they pick up their life in Chicago and move to Seattle where Brynna's cousin lives. It's been a year since the incident that sent them into hiding, and Brynna is finally starting to settle into a somewhat normal life until a threat rises up again and she has no choice but to accept protection in the form of her walking fantasy, Caleb Montgomery.

Brynna has been lusting after Caleb for months, but Caleb insists on a hands off friendship. He doesn't think that he's capable of a relationship; his experiences as a SEAL left him broken and damaged. He doesn't think that he has anything to offer Brynna or her girls. But that doesn't mean that he stops wanting her any less.

Caleb still suffers horrendous nightmares from his past tours. He thinks he's broken, damaged, not worthy of someone like Brynna. Brynna was a wonderful heroine. She was strong, in a very understated way. She wasn't a pushover or whine when she didn't get her way. I loved the way that she handled Caleb and his problems. She was understanding and patient.

Caleb was just pure sex on a stick. Kristen Proby definitely did not disappoint in the sex department. This book was HOT. When Caleb finally gave in to the red hot passion between them IT.WAS.ON.

These two just burned up the pages together. It wasn't just all Caleb, I really liked how Brynna went after what she wanted and didn't shy away from getting it. She gave as good as she got.

Brynna's girls were adorable, and I especially enjoyed Caleb's interaction with them. It was incredibly sweet. We also get to catch up with all the characters from the past books and find out how their relationships have developed, which was great. So why only 4 stars? Well, while I loved Caleb and Brynna, and Brynna and Caleb together, and the super steamy scenes, I just didn't connect that much with this book as I did with Rock with Me.

I think my biggest quibble was the "suspense" part of this book. I felt like it was really glossed over and just a quick filler. In the beginning, it explained Brynna's move, and then the reason for Brynna to need Caleb's protection, but then it sort of just fizzled out? The way that it resolved just felt entirely too glossed over.

I just felt like something was missing. It seemed like there was all this build up, and then in the end the quick resolution just fell slightly flat. I'm not even sure why I think that, and I very well may be in the minority with my opinion. But whatever the reason may be, it still just didn't feel like a 5 star book for me. What I'm very happy about? The little teaser we get into Matt's book in the end. Sweet baby jebus! I am ALL about the dirty and kinky cops. Bring it on! I cannot wait.

Review: Perfect Regret by A. Meridith Walters

Perfect Regret (Bad Rep 2) - A. Meredith Walters

3 if only it wasn't for Riley stars Blessed are the hearts that bend; they shall never be broken.

That awkward, confused looking person in that gif? That's me right now. Minus the penis and plus some more hair. Why you ask? Well because I'm in a bit of a loss as to how to rate a book like this. A 3 star rating for me isn't bad. It means I liked the book, but something just kept me from loving it. It was good...OK...but not great. I loved, absolutely loved the first book, and I really enjoy the author's writing. I loved everything about this book. Well everything aside from one tiny weenie little thing: the heroine, Riley. She drove me out of my ever loving mind! Now, it will be fair to say that I seem to have a short fuse for annoying and weak heroines. But here's the thing...Riley was not weak. If anything she was the polar opposite of that times infinity on steroids. Riley Walker has just been dumped. To say that she's not handling it well is an understatement. She's supposed to be the girl that doesn't make mistakes, that leads the perfect life, that has her goals and priorities in order, and knows what she wants from her life. She had all of that, plus the perfect on paper boyfriend...until her perfect boyfriend tells her that their relationship has become boring and dumps her. So of course she's going to wallow in some self pity for a while.

And to commemorate my recent descent into early spinsterhood, I had compiled a list of the most obnoxious and annoying songs ever written. Nothing says heartache and the overwhelming urge to disembowel yourself with a butter knife quite like an hour of Celine Dion ballads."

But then, to add insult to injury, she finds out that her ex just asked her very annoying coworker out. So what's a girl to do? Well get drunk and have a very hot one night stand with the person she least expected to pay any attention to; Garrett Bellows.

Time to take a ride on the Garrett Express all the way to Fuck Me town"

Riley never thought to give him the time of day. After all he's a townie, a pot head, and no goals in mind aside from being the guitarist of Generation Rejects...but is that really all that was to him?

Garrett

We've found something in each other that we want. Hell if I understand why. Out of all the fish in the sea, I had to hook you. One giant, snarly toothed piranha ready to bite my fingers off."
Garrett had me swooning after him for the entire book. There were some moments in the beginning that I questioned it, but he was just amazing. He wanted Riley, and once he let her know what he wanted, he didn't play around. He's already been through so much, and all he asked of Riley is for her to not break his heart when he gives it to her? So what did Riley do with that? Well she ran it over with a friggin mack truck, of course. Then for good measure, she backed up, and ran it over again!!! To say that I hated Riley for the majority of the book would be a gross understatement. She was a bitch. Plain and simple. She was HORRIBLE to Garrett. Everything she said, everything she did, I found myself getting more and more angry
It actually got to a point where I found myself rooting against her. I kid you not, I wished that Garrett would end up with someone that was deserving of him, and that was not Riley. I have never wished more that I could reach through my kindle and actually choke a fictional character. GAH! She finally did manage to get her shit together in the last 15ish% of the book. For me this was just a case of too little too late. I didn't think she deserved someone as wonderful as Garrett. He was always so understanding and tolerant of her, and she never ONCE returned the favor. She was judgmental, and rude, and at times purposefully hurtful. Yes, that was her self defense mechanism, but it was just too much. I understand that she was going through a lot, but I didn't find that to be a good excuse for her behavior. I just couldn't find myself to look past my hate for Riley in this book to rate this anything above 3.5 stars. The writing was fantastic, Garrett was wonderful, and it would have been a 5 star book for me if not for Riley. So that is all the raging ramblings you'll be getting from this girl. I'm off to read a book with a heroine that I will not be having homicidal thoughts towards. And I thank you

Review: Kept by Him by Red Garnier

Kept by Him - Red Garnier

He thought he could control his hunger. He'd been controlling it for years. But like some underfed, abused beast, it was out of its cage, and Daniel feared no amount of willpower would hold it back now. Only Monica...

Daniel Lexington is sexy as sin, rich, and completely irresistible; the Prince of The Windy City. He can have any woman he wants. But there's only one woman that he hungers for, but she remains forever out of reach and hands off. Monica is known as the Ice Princess. She may be successful and rich in her own right, but her issues with letting men in has earned her a reputation. Her parent's turbulent marriage and it's violent end has made her swear off the type of passion. She only dates "safe" men, and is not interested in getting her heart involved. Unfortunately her choice in men has not left her to experience the all consuming passion that she longs for in bed, and there's only one man that she knows can give it to her. So when Monica propositions Daniel to show her what passion can be, no strings attached, he can't help but agree. After all, he's wanted Monica for so long. But will Daniel be satisfied with just Monica's body when he wants to possess her everything?

This was probably my least favorite in the series. It was super steamy and sexy and I absolutely LOVED Daniel, but I had a slight disconnect with Monica. She grated on me for most of the book. I understand her hesitancy to get involved emotionally given what she saw her parents go through, but at the same time she irritated me with her issues.

Daniel wanted her, and he was very clear about it. Monica took the entire book to finally get her shit together. I can't say that she was THAT bad, but enough for me to get irritated with her at times. It was a quick read, but I did find myself getting bored with it. It also might have been a case of been there and read that as well. It was a sexy, though unoriginal plot. It was OK. A quick and steamy read, but nothing I will be going back to.

Review: Unattainable by Madeline Sheehan

Unattainable - Madeline Sheehan

Love, they say, has the potential to kill a person if they aren’t careful. I wasn’t careful. I let that love blossom uncontrollably until it was in full bloom, exploding from within me, with nowhere to go.

Well Madeline Sheehan has done it again, she has taken broken, damaged, and completely imperfect characters and managed to write a dark and gritty book that you will not be able to put down until the very last page. I was not a fan of Tegan from the past books, and I'll be honest that I wasn't thrilled to be reading a book with her as the main heroine. But I love this series, and I loved Cage, so I thought what the hell. Well I am eating my words, I'm not too proud to admit that, because this book was fucking awesome!

Cage

Cage is the son of Deuce, the president of the Hell's Horsemen MC, and he's also the asshole manwhore responsible for breaking little Tegan's heart at the tender age of 16.

Tegan

Considering the woman didn't have a sound below screeching, it'd be hard not to. She's a vulgar, rude, mean, mouthy little bitch. But considering what she has been through in her 24 years, it's somewhat understandable. Tegan is the the daughter of Dorothy, a "club whore" and has been in the MC life since she was eight. She has also been in love with Cage just as long, up until he shattered her world and her heart when she was 16, and she hasn't been the same since. She learned one very tough lesson from all of it

You stupid bitch. You ignorant, stupid bitch. Love isn’t a fucking answer. It hurts more than it doesn’t, it’s harder than it is easy, it takes work, guts, and perseverance."

Tegan escaped to California for college and to be as far away from the club as possible. To say that she hates them and the life they lead would be putting it mildly. But now she's back at the request of her mother, who's still dealing with the fallout and issues following her gunshot wound the head courtesy of Jase's wife a year ago, and Tegan is forced to come face to face with everything that she had hoped to forget.

Wow wow wow! The side story of Dirty and Ellie was one of the best parts of this book for me. I think they were the saving grace to Tegan's constant screeching, yelling, and swearing. Ellie is Danny's friend from UnBeautifully; she was the reserved and somewhat shy one of the group of friends. Dirty was a character that I barely paid any mind to from the past books...until he pretty much stole the show in this one.

My heart broke for him with every new bit of information I read. He was such a broken, dark, and damaged soul.

He was nothing. He was shit. He was a damaged, deranged, sick motherfucker who deserved to be put the fuck down. He shouldn’t have lived for as long as he had; he didn’t deserve to share the same earth with people like Ellie.

Ellie was the light to his dark. I absolutely loved her and the way she treated Dirty. Their story was gut wrenching and beautiful at the same time. My heart broke for each of them and what they were going through.

Every day she was faced with his beautiful face, his long, lean, sculpted body, and his personality, so damaged, so fragile, she couldn’t help but want to fix him. He was a woman’s worst nightmare— beautiful on the outside, ravaged on the inside. A deadly combination.

Their story was the perfect yang to the ying of Cage and Tegan. Had it been just Tegan and Cage, the book would have been something close to 3.5 stars for me. But Dirty and Ellie added that dark and damaged softness that this book so needed to bring it to a beautiful 5 star read.

But I wouldn't have it any other way. Madeline Sheehan has a writing style that's dark and gritty but at the same time so incredibly emotional that I've come to fall in love with it. There's been plenty of MC books I've read before and after, but not one of them compares to her books. Not even close. There was so much that happened in this book that I don't want to go into since I don't want to spoil or give anything away, but prepare yourself for another roller coaster of emotions. ZZ, oh sweet baby jebus! I cannot wait for his book. The event that took place toward the end of Unattainable

I can't even imagine what his book will bring. Wow, just fucking WOW! And of course there was more Dorothy, Hawk, and Jase. I can't wait to see what happens with them. Madeline Sheehan just keeps getting better and better with each new book. Yes, her characters are far from perfect. Yes, they will piss you off more than make you happy. And yes, her stories will gut you and at the same time make you feel eeeeeeverything. You will hate it, you will love it, and you will be unable to set it down. But that is enough gushing from me. You will want to drop everything you're doing and READ. THIS. BOOK. And I thank you

I’m a character in my story, going through the chapters of my life as if it was written by an imaginary person, when I should be the author.

I'm woman enough to admit that what initially drew me to this book was the cover. Shallow of me? Perhaps. But is it so wrong that I just want to lick it? I think not. Then I read this: tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and my inner dirty girl was all

Review: Bound by Him by Red Garnier

Bound by Him - Red Garnier

"There's a little string" - he pointed at his chest and then at hers - "from here to here. I don't need to tie you. We're bound to each other, wherever we are, whether we like it or not."

He’d been her one and only love. He’d been her safe haven. He’d freed her from hell and taken her to heaven, and then he’d left her for three years.

Andrew Fairchild fell for Whitney Donahue hard and fast. He knew right away that she is the only woman for him. Their love was strong and he knew he would do anything to protect the fragile woman that he lost his heart to.

But three years ago when a tragedy strikes Andrew was forced to make a difficult decision that took him away from her. But now he's back and all he wants is the woman that is bound to his soul.

Andrew was Whitney's first and only love, and she knows that she will never love any other man the same way. But Andrew broke her heart and her trust when he left her, and she is no longer the broken and fragile girl that she once was. But no matter how much her mind might fight it, her body and heart know that she still belongs to him. She may try to deny it the connection between still exists after these years, but the passion between them never burned out.

When a madman threaten's Whitney's safety, there is only one man that she trusts to keep her safe, and Andrew will stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves.

This novella was packed with action and suspense, and enough steam to set your e-reader on fire. I loved that Andrew didn't hide his feelings or was the typical male slut hero. He loved Whitney with a passion and he wasted no time or words in proving it to her.

The story never felt rushed and it flowed very nicely. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I am not typically one for serial novellas, but I love that these books are all pretty much stand-alones. You don't have to wait 5 books to get a HEA. It hits the spot for whenever I need a quick and steamy read. I also liked that it had a story line beyond just Andrew and Whitney's relationship. There was the added mystery behind the madman that blackmails Whitney. It was great that it wasn't another one of those fluffy and quick novellas. I'm really looking forward to the next book. If you're looking for a quick, steamy read with a great story, a sexy as hell hero then definitely give this one a try.

A solid 4 stars from me.

Baby Come Back Lite (Baby Series Lite, #3.5) - Andrea Smith 3.5 stars
image
Tristan had been the one to teach me about love and intimacy; he'd been the one to show me how to trust again.
image
image

A wonderful conclusion to a fantastic series. Baby Come Back Lite is a novella told from Gina's POV.

I have loved Gina's character from book one. She is quirky, funny, tough, and isn't afraid to stand up for herself and her friends. She was an amazing friend to Tylar, and their friendship is what endeared me to her from the get go.

Tristan has also been a huge favorite of mine throughout the series. He has a very quiet intensity to him. I think maybe that's why I enjoyed his character as much as I did. He was a bit like the yang to Trey's ying, maybe? Well whatever the reason may be, Tristan was great.

I have been looking forward to reading Tristan and Gina's book from the very beginning. Perhaps this was why this didn't become a 5 star book for me? I think I set my expectations too high. There were a few things that I was looking forward to reading, that didn't happen in the novella. I was really hoping to get Gina's perspective on how her and Tristan got together. I know this was more or less covered in book 2, but I guess I just wanted a little more. But that's really just my own biased opinion and not a reflection on the book or the writing at all. The book itself was great.

I will say this, Andrea Smith definitely knows how to hit the reader where it hurts, and she certainly doesn't pull any punches. When she gives us Gina's deepest and darkest secrets and past, she doesn't hold back. Some of it was very hard to read for me, my heart just broke for what she has been through. The way that she had persevered and was such a strong heroine in the end just made me like her more.

The story takes up right around the time where Tristan finds out about Gina's pregnancy "secret." We get to find out more about Gina's past, as well as Tristan's and what experience had really scarred him in relationships. Tristan and Gina were both very real characters, they weren't perfect, and I liked that. They both made their share of mistakes, but it was wonderful to see them work through it and the way that they did it.

I am not sure why exactly, but for some reason Tylar seemed to get on my nerves in this book. I found her irritating in the first half of book 1, until she grew on me. But in this book, perhaps because we didn't get her POV, she just came across almost selfish and whiny at times. Meh. *shrugs*

This was a quick and entertaining read. I finished it in one sitting.

Many of the characters from the last book made an appearance...including Amber
image

And Libby
image

But all that was made better by Tristan and Gina together.
image

This novella might have been short in comparison to the other books, but it packed a punch. Almost sad to see this series come to an end now. But what a ride!

Shattered Glass (Shattered Glass, #1) - Dani Alexander 5 'Holy Fucking Christ, Dear Sweet Mother of God' this book was fucking AWESOME stars
image
Being gay wasn’t like changing eye colors; you couldn’t just get contacts and “Whammo!”— gayness.
image
"I like you. Even though you’re probably a criminal and are going to get me thrown off the force. And you kicked me. Broke my nose. Made me gay and refused to kiss me."
image

I have to warn you in advance, when I get excited about something, I tend to swear like a sailor with tourette's syndrome. You've been warned... FUCKITY FUCKING FUCK but this book was awesome! I don't even have the words to describe how much I loved it. I'm pretty sure I highlighted every single word that came out of Austin's mouth. I couldn't stop myself. He was like a lingual Midas. Everything that came out of the man's mouth was pure gold.
image
imageI wasn’t gay. You don’t go twenty-six years before the gay gene suddenly just kicks in. It didn’t work like that. I was sure of it. Not that I knew that much about being gay. I had one friend with same-sex orientation, and Dana hadn’t spoken to me since I asked her to describe her honeymoon in graphic detail— and then made vibrator noises.

Awww, Austin, don't fret
image
imageFuck it, I’m not gay. Goddammit. I’m bunny-slipper-sexual?

Really? Done and DONE!
image
Now come to mama Austin!
image

This book was like the perfect set up for a joke: A detective, a whore, and a demonic looking cat walk into a diner...

But I digress, so let's get to the review shall we?

Austin Glass seemingly has it all, a great job as a detective with the FBI lined up, a more than healthy trust fund that keeps him in $2000 suits for work, a charming personality that seems to get him whatever he wants, a wise crack for every occasion, and a loving fiance. There's just one problem that he seems to have now. After seeing a certain redheaded busboy in bunny slippers, Austin can't seem to stop thinking about him. Which proves to be a bit of a problem. How does a man that has been engaged 4 times, and cheated on each woman with the next one, all of a sudden find himself fantasizing about
image

imageI’m not gay."
"Congratulations. Would you like a medal?" Bunny Slippers asked.
"I already have a medal. For bravery, not for being gay. I think you made me gay."
"I made you gay? Is that better or worse than the person who made you stupid?"

That is quite the conundrum you got yourself there Austin. Perhaps there's a book you can read that might help you out?
image
Hmmm....well maybe you can talk to a gay friend or something? Maybe talk to your partner's gay daughter? I think he offered...
imageI don’t give a shit if your daughter is gay or your whole fucking lineage is taking it up the ass. They’re not me. Unless you have some unique perspective on why I’m suddenly checking out guys’ asses, then I’m just going to go with the redhead that takes it up the ass and hope he has a shitfucking answer." Or a goddamn roadmap of how to deal with a sudden attraction to penises might be helpful, too.

Well sure, I guess you could do that too.
image
I think I read this entire book with a big goofy grin on my face. I don't think there was one thing about it I disliked. Everything was just fucking awesome!

Austin's internal musings
imageDear God, he’d broken my nose, charged me for sex, kicked me, made me look like an idiot, and all I wanted to do is bang the sense out of him with my dick.

image
Austin's banter with his partner
imageToday is hump day, Luis." I lolled my head to the side and blinked prettily at my partner.
"Don’t make me lock you in a cell, Glass."
"What kind of gifts do people give their partner on hump day? Lube? Vibrators? Issues of Bazooms with a box of tissues?"

image
And most especially, Austin's banter with Peter
imageYou’re frustrating."
"I’m adorable."
"From a distance," Peter admitted— grudgingly.
"Up close, I’m sexy as hell."
"You’re rich, spoiled and used to getting your way," he said stubbornly.
"Not true. If I had my way you would have kissed me and ridden me like cowboy while screaming ‘yeehaw’."

image
This book had everything; humor, suspense, mystery, action. And when we finally have some action between Peter and Austin...
image
Major swoon!
image
How the fuckidy fuck did I go so long without reading this book? What is wrong with me? Wait! Don't answer that. But in all seriousness, this book was simply the best. Thank you my PPE, Pervy, for giving me the friendly shove to read this one. You are the bestest! *muah*

Now I could probably keep sitting here and ramble on and on about how much I loved this, and quite possibly put in like 50 other quotes I like. But that is all you will be getting from me. Stop reading my review and go read this book!!!

And I thank you

Ok...I think my manic episode is done now. Really. Don't judge me!

Craving Constellations (The Aces, #1) - Nicole Jacquelyn 4.5 Raw, gritty, and completely captivating stars
image
"I know, baby. I know you need control. But with me, you aren't gonna get it."
image
In my head I reminded myself that he was taken, but I couldn't get over the feeling that he had always been mine.
image

I went into this book with absolutely zero expectations. I'm a sucker for MC books, but after a recent string of very mediocre reads, I wasn't expecting much from a debut novel.

Holy shit was I wrong. This book blew me away! It was raw, gritty, painful, emotional, dark, passionate, and unputdownable until the very last page.
image
Five years ago Brenna made the decision to leave the only life she's ever known behind, in the hopes of building a different future for herself. Being the daughter of the vice president of a MC that runs guns is not exactly what she wants to be know for. What she doesn't expect is to run back to her old life when the new one she though she was building comes crumbling down on her. Leaving behind a brutally abusive husband, she takes her daughter and runs back to the only family she's ever been able to rely on.
image
Dragon is the Aces new lieutenant. When he first met Brenna at a club party he had just gotten his cut, and had no idea that the enticing woman that he felt such a pull to was his VP's daughter. They share a night of passion only for her to take off and then reappear in his life with one huge secret.
imageFuckin’ gone for five years. No one hears from you. Now, you come back, and I find out you had my daughter and didn’t tell me FOR FIVE FUCKIN’ YEARS?".

Dragon is devasted that he was kept from his daughter for 4 years, and as much as he may blame Brenna for the decisions that she's made and her betrayal he can't seem to make himself stop wanting her.
image
Nicole Jacquelyn took two imperfect and fucked up characters and wrote them in such a way that you just couldn't help but love them.

I am not typically a fan of heroines that are overly emotional but yet I felt for Brenna. Her life hasn't been an easy one, and although she has made some mistakes she still struggles to bring back the strong woman that she once was. She left behind her life because she didn't want to be the old lady on the sidelines while her man came home smelling like club whores. Dragon may not be perfect, but the magnetic pull between them is impossible for her to deny.
imageI went into the thing with Dragon looking for a little escape from reality, and I’d gotten way more than I bargained for. He wasn’t charming like Tony. He didn’t tell me sweet things. He was gruff and rude, and the things he said to me made me blush.

Brenna and Dragon are attempting to mend things between them, but
will the secrets that she still hold on to threaten to break them once and for all?

Their relationship was gritty, painful, emotional, but real.
imageWe weren’t making love. It wasn’t sweet or soft. We were fucking, hard. Every movement was rough and needy, and for once, Dragon wasn’t talking me through it. We just needed to be as close as we possibly could before the world came tumbling around us again.

image
I loved how the relationship between them, while having it's fair share of bumps and turns, felt real. Dragon may have been a rough around the edges, says what he wants with no holds barred Alpha man, but the way he felt pain broke my heart.

His pain bled through the pages to me. And even though Brenna was the sole reason behind this, I couldn't bring myself to blame her. They were both broken and tortured souls, and my heart went out for both of them.
imageHe was like a wounded animal, and I was the hunter who'd wounded him. I didn't know if he would ever forgive me.

There was a point in this book where Dragon did something that I would usually not be able to tolerate or understand in a hero. The fact that I not only forgave him for it, but understood his pain and remorse for it after the fact speaks volumes for the writing.

If you're looking for an emotionally charged, beautifully written MC book then you really need to give this one a try. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series (hopefully it will be Grease?)

Love Plus One (G-Man, #2) - Andrea Smith 4.5 I want Taz to call ME his 'baby girl' STARS
image
"I'm not looking to get hurt, Taz. I'm just looking to get laid."
image
She was a fucking contradiction in terms. She was soft and sweet; lusty and sexy; reserved and abandoned at the same time.

Well, it's official my friends; Andrea Smith has a new stalker auto-buy fan in me. While I really enjoyed her Baby Lite series, this book pretty much blew it out of the water for me. I thought I knew what I was in for, I though I was prepared for what was coming, boy was I fucking wrong! But before I get into all that, let's talk about a few other things.

While I have not yet read the first book in this series (something I will be rectifying immediately), I had no issues understanding what was going on. I knew right away when I began reading that this book was going to be right up my alley.

I mean let's see...
Sexy bad-boy, slightly assholish and manwhoring hero: image
Said hero also having tattoos: image
He was a sexy as hell FBI agent: image
Heroine that I didn't want to strangle: image
A fantastic plot: image
And enough steam to feel like my reader was going to catch on fire: YUP!imageimageimage

A year ago, Lindsey Dennison's life changed irrevocably. Turned out her father was not quite the man she always thought him to be. She had to deal with the fact that his criminal activity had led to federal bust, and then his ultimate run from the law. Her parent's marriage is over, and her mother is now married to the FBI agent responsible for the investigation.

Her mother never even hinting to having the problems that she was having in her marriage certainly hasn't helped with the shock that Lindsey has been dealt. But she's trying to deal with it, to move on with her life. So she focuses all her energy on her first year of college. She's not looking for happily ever after, she just wants to finish school and begin her career. There's just one pesky little issue that she'd like to deal with before all that; losing her virginity.
image
But Lindsey doesn't feel that way. She's not looking for rainbows and unicorns and a happily ever after. She just wants to get it over with, and who's better fit for the job that her step-father's sexy partner, Trace "Taz" Matthews.

Taz is not into relationships. He likes his sex hot and dirty, and he likes his women disposable. He's 10 years older than Lindsey and he knows that his partner and best friend's virginal step daughter is definitely off limits.

But there's just one problem to his plan to stay away from her; he can't seem to stop thinking about the little spitfire.
image

So they come to an arrangement. Taz will help Lindsey learn all she needs to about sex, and then they will both move on without looking back.
image
But things never quite work out the way you plan them, and Taz and Lindsey find themselves dealing with what looks to be a budding relationship.
image

I really liked that the progression of Lindsey and Taz's relationship didn't feel rushed or forced. Even though it might have been lust at first sight, both Taz and Lindsey struggled with their feelings, and it took them some time to deal with things.

As I've come to associate with Andrea Smith's books, the story was filled with steam, action, suspense, and twist and turns. Just when I thought I was OK with how things were developing, and thought I knew what was coming Andrea went and swept the rug right out from under me. HOLY FUCKING HELL! When I got to the 80% mark of this book...I have no words.

I'm pretty sure it was just

And after just left me

Please be warned that the book has a very brutal and graphic rape scene. If you are not comfortable reading that, I would advise against reading this book. The last 20% will leave you reeling.

Was this book perfect? No. There were times where I wanted to slap some sense into Lindsey, and times where Taz did or said some things that had me shaking my head. But something about it just worked for me. I loved it. And now I am eagerly anticipating the 3rd book's release in December 2013.

But that is all the ramblings you'll be getting from this girl for now. I'm gonna go read me a sunshine and rainbows book next to deal with the 'HOLY HELL DID THAT JUST HAPPEN' last 20% of this book. And I thank you

Taken by Him - Red Garnier image
Sex appeal oozed from his pores so powerfully Peyton almost felt assaulted. He was all Greek god, do-me-now-or-kill-me-now sexy.
image

I went into this novella with very little expectations. I mean what can you really expect from 112 pages? When it's written by Red Garnier, quite a bit actually.

I wanted a quick and steamy little read and I got that. What I also got was great characterization, an interesting story, HOT AS HELL sex scenes, and even a few laughs.

I don't usually enjoy novellas too much simply because they are too quick for me to get any sort of feel or liking for the characters. I was so happy to see that when it came to sexy as hell Luke and the serious yet craving some spice Peyton, that was not the case. I really enjoyed this one.

Anyone that follows my reviews knows that I have a thing for the arrogant, slightly assholish, sexy manwhores. I can't help myself. They just do it for me. And Luke was the manwhore to beat all manwhores. The man managed to get shot because he got caught having sex with a woman he shouldn't have been having sex with. He's not exactly discerning when it comes to women.

imageEveryone knew he was a cad - clearly, the heart in his chest was just for pumping blood to his cock. Not for feelings and shit.
Hell, he could probably live without one.

Luke has it all; good looks, success, money, and women seem to just flock to him. His ego also knows no bounds.
imageHe was a sexy man. Everybody wanted him. His famed and acclaimed advertisements for one of his own male underwear companies were fit for a Playgirl cover; he was every woman's wet dream and they went wild for his big, thick cock perfectly delineated under those damned white briefs.

Something about this egotistical bastard just worked for me
imageI'm like the fucking holy pope of sex. A night with me is like the pinnacle Of a lot of these women's sexual lives.".

image
While the man that shot him still hasn't been caught, and his friends practically force him to get out of Chicago for the time being, Luke decides that Cancun will be the perfect place for him to regroup.
image

Peyton Lane is a successful business woman, a partner in a big invesment firm. She is always the responsible one, the serious one. So when she spends a week in an exotic resort in Cancun she plans to get lose. And what better way to do that then to have a steamy affair with a man she will never see again. When she first lays eyes on the sinfully sexy Luke, she knows she found just the man.
imageIf there had been a god of pure lust and sex in Greek mythology- without the love aspect attached to it, like with Eros- the she had no doubt that his name would be Luke Fucking Preston.

Peyton Lane has always been serious and responsible and she’s determined to have some fun for once in her life. And that means a deliciously, sexy affair with a stranger while she’s on vacation. So when a blond Adonis named Luke crosses her path at the Cancun resort, she’s determined that he will be the one. What takes place is a 3 night scorching hot affair.
image
Peyton discovers that she doesn't quite get what she bargained for with Luke, she gets more. She gets passion the likes of which she has never experienced.
image
image

For a quickie novella, this one packed quite a punch. I am not usually a fan of a quick relationship development, particularly with a renowned manwhore like Luke was. I am not sure if it was the writing, or the fact that I really enjoyed both the characters, but in this story it really worked. It wasn't instantaneous, but it was believable.

And when Luke does fall, he falls hard

imageI want you because I know what it is to have you. I want you because I know what you're like, and I want more, more of all of you, not just your body...I want you.

This was a short, steamy, and extremely satisfying read. I read it in one sitting, and will definitely be reading the rest of the books in the series.

Fatal Strike - Shannon McKenna image
That radiant smile scared him to death. All that "mine" bullshit. No longer an issue. Probably never had been. He was hers. After all his arrogant posturing. All hers.
image
image

Finally, 10 books into the series, we get a book for Miles. I've been intrigued by his character ever since he was introduced back in book 2. Taking into consideration how much I've absolutely hated Cindy, his then love interest, I'm so glad that he got a heroine totally worthy of him with Lara.

I love a good romantic suspsense, and Shannon McKenna can definitely deliver one hell of an action filled punch. But if you've been keeping up with the series, you have probably come to realize then when you read this series, you really must prepare yourself to leave the realm of believable. The villains in her book have been getting progressively more crazy...or actually
image

While enough background information is given to be able to read this as a standalone, many of the previous characters make an appearance. It's hard for me to say whether it would get confusing, as I had read all the books. But Shannon McKenna does do a very good job with characterization and background without it being boring or repetitive.

Miles Davenport has always been a bit of a nerd in the earlier books. For those that have that image of him in their mind while reading, will have a hard time seeing him as the super sexy commando that he is in this one. I had no such problems. I thought that his journey from basement computer nerd to kickass hero is a very smooth and believable one.

Fatal Strike finds Miles still trying to recuperate after his ordeal in the previous book. After undergoing a horrendous torture, he wakes up from his coma as Miles 2.0.
image
But this is not happy news for him. He struggles with how to deal with his new psychic abilities, thinking that he must be going crazy. Especially when he begins getting very carnal visits in his mind's fortress from a woman he can't stop thinking about, or her failed rescue attempt.

Lara Kirk is being held captive by a psychopath for the past 6 months, undergoing experiments on her mind with a new drug that is supposed to increase her psychic ability. The experiments are slowly causing her to lose track of what's fantasy or what's reality; combining both into one shadowy world.
image
But when her mind leaves her body, it only knows of one safe place to hide; with a man whose virile presence is able to offer a calming and sensual escape from her reality.
image
When Miles realizes that his phantom visitor is in fact real, and Lara is still alive, he knows that he will stop at nothing to rescue her this time around.

I enjoyed how Miles wasn't the typical arrogant and jaded Alpha male. Don't get me wrong, he was still sexy as sin, but still somewhat unsure of himself. It was incredibly endearing.

Lara, although she went through hell for the past 6 months was a great heroine as well. She was strong, and tough, and I loved the connection between her and Miles.

If you're expecting a realistic relationship progression, you're definitely reading the wrong book. Expect to have sex scenes right after an ordeal or struggles with bad guys. I had no problem with this, since I knew in advance what I was getting into. And to be honest, I've grown to enjoy that in this series.

Why only 4 stars? Well I found myself getting a little bored at some parts. Fatal Strike is action packed, filled with suspense and super steamy erotic scenes. But certain parts were a bit too lengthy for me, and I had to skim pages.

We got a few peeks into Sveti and Sam's budding "relationship". And I'm really looking forward to their book. I've really liked Sveti's character, ever since she was first introduced as a young child in [b:Extreme Danger|2077537|Extreme Danger (McClouds & Friends #5)|Shannon McKenna|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1347632456s/2077537.jpg|2082806].

I do hope that the next book finally takes a step back from this psychic plot line that seems to be recurring ever since book 7. It is starting to feel slightly played out.

Overall, this was a great addition to the series, and I am definitely looking forward to the next book. Really hoping that it will be Sveti and Sam's book.

Cage (Corps Security, #2) - Harper Sloan 4.5 Sexy Beast Stars
image
Having her in my arms feels like coming home. I am not one to believe in all that love at first sight bullshit, but even as cynical as I am, I can recognize something bigger than lust at work.
image
Before, this was all about the game. Enjoy him while I can and stay away from any kind of attachments. But now, I feel like it would be impossible to walk away.
image
image
Whose pants, you ask? Well Greg Cage's of course. No need to think about decor, as Cage has already decorated the ahem...facilities very well. And yes I mean exactly what you're thinking about. Don't worry about bringing refreshments, as you will be getting drunk on all his sexy Alpha-maleness. I would suggest bring a few packs of ice for those moments (and there will be quite a few) where your ovaries will feel like they are about to catch on fire.

In Axel, I got very sweet and tame vibes from Cage. Boy was I in for a surprise when we got to see what he was really like. And let me just say, mama like! The book starts off with a bang
image
And I do mean a bang! And what a ride it was.

Axel definitely still holds the number one spot for me (until Maddox finally gets his book. What? I happen to have a thing for the broken and broody assholes), but Greg did give him a run for his money.

What really made this book for me though, was the heroine. I love me a kick ass heroine, and Melissa had it in spades. She is still dealing with the pain of losing her sister, but she still maintains this strength about herself.
imageOne thing I have learned is you never hide who you are. If you want something, you fight for it. When you think you have fought hard enough, fight a little more. Don't ever let anyone or any situation make who you are."

It was so refreshing to read about a heroine that didn't have any insecurities about her looks, and gave as good as she got. Greg may have his way with words, but Meli definitely put him in his place and made him work for it.
imageName’s Greg Cage. Most of my friends call me Greg, some call me Cage, but you can call me whatever you want.” Really? Is he for real right now?
"Does that line ever work for you? And why would I call you Cage? Sounds like something you stuff a rabid animal in.

Greg is a man that hasn't exactly been the relationship type. That's not to say that he doesn't secretly long for it when he sees the love between his friends Axel and Izzy. When he first sees Meli, it's a case of insta-lust and he is determined to do everything to make her his.

While Meli doesn't exactly make it easy for him, Greg certainly has a way with words. And when the man has his goal in mind, he pulls no punches.
imageYour body wants this as bad as your mind does. I can feel how wet you are. Come on beauty, let’s get out of here."
I feel his hand slip around the front of my body, back under my skirt, and his fingertips brush against my screaming core.
"Do you taste as good as you feel? Warm and juicy? Like a ripe peach that’s mine for the picking?"

image

And let me just tell you, when these two finally get down to business...WOWZA!

image

I am not usually a fan of almost insta-love, but somehow with Greg and Meli it just worked. It was not a instant thing, but it was a fairly quick transition from lust to love, yet it felt smooth. It just worked for them.

Greg is still dealing with regrets and past pain of his own. But he is trying to work through it and make amends for his past mistakes. He still has an edge about him with his dirty talking ways, but he also had this incredible sweet side.
imageI can’t make you promises, Beauty. I can’t sit here and tell you that I’m worth letting those walls down for. But, I can tell you that if the way I feel for you now keeps growing, there isn’t an army strong enough to pull me out.

image

We also get some more glimpses at all our favorite boys, including my deliciously broody Maddox. And of course some more Axel and Izzy and their newest little addition...that apparently doesn't fall too far from the tree.
imageNate is all ‘alpha baby’."
"He is constantly saying ‘mine’. But does he say it about normal things a one year old would claim? Noooo, not Axel Reid’s baby. His baby claims boobs, Izzy. I took him with me to the mall the other day, and when we ran into Victoria’s Secret to get some new boyshorts, because hey, they were on sale so why not? Anyway, we walk in and he starts pointing to every mannequin, every sales lady’s chest. Then when I’m checking out, he pulls my top down and screams ‘mine’. You have issues with that boy if he is already chasing tits at one."

Then there was Mandy:
image
And that is all I will say on that subject.

This book was not as angsty as the first one was, but it was still filled with plenty of action, steam, and suspense. There was a super sweet epilogue, and a quick sneak peek into Beck and Dee's book.

This series has become an auto-buy favorite for me. Harper Sloan really knows how to write one hell of a sexy Alpha hero. And Greg Cage was no exception. I am now a little spoiled. I will be expecting every hero I read from now on to have the "trifecta of vaginal bliss."

Now that is all the ramblings you will be getting from this girl. I am off to pout about the fact that I have to wait until book 5 to read about my beloved Maddox. And I thank you!
